hi, i'm new to the tribe and i'm sorta new to knitting, my grandmother taught me eons ago and i've tried to pick it up a few times since but crocheting is just so much faster for me ... but i'm trying again ... i'm working on a really simple shawl right now just to get the hang of things ... can anyone recommend a good place to get beginner patterns that aren't dreadfully boring to wear or use after they are done?

Tue, October 4, 2005 - 7:52 AMThe Stitch & Bitch books are pretty good:
www.amazon.com/exec/obido...952-9073752
I prefer crochet for speed as well, but there's something about knit texture, isn't there?
Enjoy! -

Tue, October 4, 2005 - 8:40 AMMy favorite online source of free patterns is www.knitty.com . They rock! They also have lots of extremely well-written articles useful to beginners and experts alike. Cool patterns, cool articles. Check it out.
If you poke around www.adriafil.com you can also find their knitting magazine that has free patterns in .pdf files. The pattern descriptions aren't as good as in knitty.com though. I wouldn't recommend that site for a beginner, but once you get the hang of shaping it's pretty good.
Additionally, a good online source for discount yarn is www.elann.com . They also have free patterns from time to time. -
