One of my Christmas gifts this year was a bag of three skeins of bouclé alpaca yarn from here:

However, there's no information on yardage, or even needle suggestions. My guage swatch gave me 12 sts x 16 rows for 4"x4" using a 6 mm (US 10) needle.
I came up with a yardage estimate using this information:
secure.elann.com/productdisp.asp
If this pure alpaca yarn goes for 100 m (109 yds) per 50 g, I have 3 x 150 g balls, which would be 900 m of my bouclé alpaca. I think that's enough for a light sweater. Thoughts, anyone?
In any case, those charitable yarns seem like quite a good deal.

Re: charitable yarns
Thu, December 29, 2005 - 5:10 AMI'm not sure, but 900 m seems a little shy of a long sleeved sweater. And your gauge indicates the yarn is pretty bulky, so you may not have even that much. Maybe a vest? -

Re: charitable yarns
Thu, December 29, 2005 - 3:05 PMIn fact, the yarn is quite thin, but loopy, hence the bulky gauge and the airy swatch. I estimated the yardage according to a worsted weight yarn. If this bouclé were just straight, it would be thinner than worsted. Therefore, I thought my yardage estimate of 900 m was a conservative under-estimate.
In any case I'm starting the body from the bottom up, and I'll adjust sleeve length accordingly. After six inches, worked in the round, I don't think I've even diminshed the first ball by half.
