Now that I'm knitting more than rectangles, I find that I need stitch markers. So I cut some hemp, threaded on a bead or two, tied them into circles, glued the knots and I've been using them. Now I need a round marker, so I used a different color bead, only made one. I guess these will do, but I've seen some handmade ones since, and they are long with a ring at the top. Now, does the weight matter? What do knitters use?

Re: stitch markers
Mon, February 26, 2007 - 8:41 AMIMO. I've used yarn scraps tied into loops to make stitch markers, and I've used store-bought circular ones. I prefer the circular, as they stand out more and I find them less likely to get tangled up in the stitches. They also are easier to slip from needle to needle. I've seen the decorative ones w/ the bead dangles, but have yet to try one. I've heard it recommended that tying a piece of yarn to a circular stitch marker helps prevent yarn-overs from rotating around the stitch marker, throwing off your lace sections. I assume the stitch markers w/ the dangles would do the same.

Re: stitch markers
Mon, April 23, 2007 - 2:44 PMIf you do other crafts in addition to knitting, Jewelry findings work very well too. You can buy a bag of the "hoop" style earrings where the post fits inside the hoop. Then you can thow a couple of beads on them to make them pretty or to differentiate them.
Depending on the size of the hoops you buy, when you have all of your knitting friends over, they can double as wine glass markers ^_~
